Andy Yu

I am an elementary school coder who loves math, science, games, and big ideas.

I am a student at North Hillsborough Elementary, and I like exploring ideas through numbers, experiments, and code. My favorite projects often start with curiosity and end with something I can build, solve, or play.

Story

Curiosity, logic, and playful invention are a big part of who I am.

Math

I like thinking through patterns

Math helps me solve puzzles, notice patterns, and build confidence step by step.

Science

I like asking how things work

Science gives me space to ask questions, test ideas, and learn by trying things out.

Coding

I like building with Python and Scratch

Scratch and Python let me combine logic and creativity, turning simple ideas into games, experiments, and projects I can explore.

Swimming

I stay active through competitive swimming

As a competitive swimmer for Burlingame Aquatic Club, I build discipline, focus, and consistency in a different part of my life. My favorite stroke is breaststroke.

I tested ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini on elementary math questions across easy, medium, and hard levels. See my abstract, question bank, procedure, results tables, and what I learned.

Project Themes

The kinds of things I love to make.

Maze and adventure games

I like using Scratch to create worlds, levels, and characters that respond to player choices.

Math-powered challenges

I think timed quizzes, point systems, and puzzle mechanics can turn math into something active and fun.

Python experiments and mini tools

Python helps me make little programs, logic puzzles, and tools that make coding feel like building with ideas.

Science-inspired experiments

I like when game mechanics and simple simulations help science ideas feel concrete and interactive.

Pokemon and strategy

Pokemon brings together fun, collecting, strategy, and systems thinking in a way that matches how I like to learn and play.

Chess and problem solving

Chess fits naturally with my love of logic, planning ahead, and learning through patterns and decisions.

Momentum

What stands out about my interests.

Strong interest in math

I enjoy the challenge of numbers, patterns, and working through problems until the answer clicks.

Natural curiosity in science

I like learning how things work and exploring ideas that connect the classroom to the real world.

Scratch game builder

Coding in Scratch gives me a creative outlet where storytelling, logic, motion, and experimentation all come together.

Python learner

Python gives me another way to explore coding, solve problems, and build new kinds of projects.

Competitive swimmer

Swimming with Burlingame Aquatic Club gives me an active, disciplined outlet that balances my interest in coding, math, and games. My favorite stroke is breaststroke.

Pokemon and chess fan

Both Pokemon and chess reflect the same mix of strategy, curiosity, and thoughtful play that shows up in my school interests too.

North Hillsborough Elementary student

My elementary school years are already full of the kind of curiosity and making mindset that can grow in many directions.

Creative Direction

My best ideas mix logic, code, strategy, and play into something fun to explore.
